All attendees, speakers, sponsors and volunteers at our meetup and in our Slack Channel are required to agree with the following code of conduct. Organizers (the elder group, cat-herders and event runners) will enforce this code throughout the events we hold, and in our online forums such as our Slack channel. We are expecting cooperation from all participants to help ensuring a safe environment for everybody.
Contact a member of the Elders, or the cat-herder/organizer of the event.
We want to provide a forum for technically inclined people to gather, learn and discuss various topics of interest to them. We want people to feel safe and not worry about being insulted, belittled or have their feelings dismissed as irrelevant.
We also realize that most people do not intend to insult, belittle or dismiss someone’s feelings as irrelevant. So when we bring up that a certain behaviour is making another member feel unwelcome, we expect the offender to stop said behaviour.
Our community is dedicated to providing a harassment-free conference experience for everyone. We won’t tolerate harassment of our participants in any form including sexual language and imagery. If the elders or cat-herder/organizer feels that you’ve violated the rules, we’ll kick you out.
Harassment includes offensive verbal comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion, technology choices, sexual images in public spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of talks or other events, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention.
Participants asked to stop any harassing behaviour are expected to comply immediately.
Sponsors are also subject to the anti-harassment policy. In particular, sponsors should not use sexualized images, activities, or other material. Booth staff (including volunteers) should not use sexualized clothing/uniforms/costumes, or otherwise create a sexualized environment.
If a participant engages in harassing behaviour, the PEI Devs elders may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender or expulsion from the meetup/event or online forum with no refund.
If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact a PEI Dev Elder immediately. Elders can be identified with a grad cap in Slack and can be pointed to by the Cat-herder / event organizer.
The PEI Devs elder group will be happy to help participants contact hotel/venue security or local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the PEI Devs meetups / events. We value your attendance.
PEI Devs events and online forums are not appropriate places to openly malign people or companies by name. Since PEI Devs can’t validate or verify all claims, we won’t bother to validate any of them.
This group is meant to be a positive place. While it is acceptable to vent a little, if that’s all you are offering, you may be asked to leave. And by asked to leave, we mean get kicked out.
We expect participants to follow these rules at all PEI Devs meetups, events, and online forums.
Here are the steps to report violations of our code of conduct:
Please remember that the Elders, Cat-herders, event organizers, and especially our presenters are doing so by giving up their free time. By being a positive and safe space, we will encourage more people to give their free time to help PEI Devs continue to thrive.
